51. Add Multiple Shortcuts to One F-key!

You say that 7 F-keys are just not enough? You want to have multiple choices for each of your F-keys? Well, OK!

There are at least two ways to place multiple shortcuts on one F-key. Both ways require the use of Pagebuilder, meaning that you must create a webpage to use either of them. But don't be afraid. The method I use is really quite simple.

If you have previously created a webpage on your username, you already know to go to your PageBuilder index and click on Create to start your new page. If you have never before created a webpage, the following instructions are for you!

1. Go to your Web Home screen (the one you see when you log on to WebTV.) Choose More from the list on the left side of the page and then choose PageBuilder.

2.You will see an introduction page. Click on Continue.

3. You should now see the license agreement. Click on "I accept" (way down at the bottom).

4. Choose a page style

5. Click on the words Choose this to add a title to your document. On the next screen, type your page's title in the box (In your case, you might want to type Links). Un-check the box which says "Show this title on your page"

6. Click on Done

7. Click onto "Add an item".

8. Click on Links

9. Choose the button which says Add from Favorites (if all the links you want to add are located in your Fav folders.)

10. You will now see your Favorites list, complete with all the folders' names and the contents of each folder. Place a check mark beside each Favorite which you wish to place on your Links page.

11. Click on Done at the bottom and then click it again on the next screen.

12. Click on Publish (on the left sidebar.)

13. Click on Continue on the next screen.

14. On the "Ready to publish" screen, un-check the box which says Include in public list

15. Click on Publish You will then see the Congratulations screen, and that means you have successfully created your webpage! The link to your page will be displayed, and you can view your new page by simply clicking on the link.

16. Click on that link and then, while viewing your new page, press the Save key on your keyboard to save the page to a Fav folder. Once it is saved, you can then place it on an F-key.

If you know of websites that you would like to add to your page, but which you haven't saved to your Favs folders, you can always go back and edit your page to add those other links to your list.

For information on how to place pages on an F-key, see:

page19.html

And for an example of one of my own pages which I have on an F-key, and which contains multiple URLs, see:

NG.html

One final note: My example page contains the URLs to many newsgroups, and finding the URL (address) of a newsgroup is a bit more tricky than finding the URL of a webpage. To find the address of a newsgroup, follow these steps.

1. IF you have go to a newsgroup by clicking on a link, then you can find it's address by pressing "Go To" and then choosing "Show Last."

2. If you have NOT used a link to get to the newsgroup, then press the INFO key on your keyboard to display the newsgroup address (among other things). The address shown will not begin with "news:" and you must add that at the beginning!

For example, the moderated WebTV newsgroup that is known as "Users" is located at:

news:webtv.users

However, pressing the info key shows the following
information.......

----------
webtv.users
Address: WebTV Networks
----------

Obviously, the part calling itself "address" is not going to be a valid website address. But the part above it, which simply says webtv.users is what you need. By putting news: in front of it, you get....

news:webtv.users

(Don't forget that colon after "news")

When the INFO popup is displayed, you can use CMD+A to highlight all the information, and then CMD+C to copy it. All the information will be copied, but you can paste the copied info onto an email "Write" screen and edit out the unwanted parts by using your Delete key. You can then type news: in front of the address and copy the complete address to take it to PageBuilder to paste.
